Brady's Unprecedented Record

Tom Brady's 10 Super Bowl appearances are so far beyond the next closest player that it defies conventional statistical comparison. He appeared in his first Super Bowl at age 24 after the 2001 season, then made his tenth appearance at age 43 after the 2020 season. Nine of those appearances came with the New England Patriots; his final appearance and victory came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady's 10 appearances represent roughly 17% of all Super Bowls played through Super Bowl LIX. No other player is within five appearances of his record. His career essentially spans the entire modern era of the Super Bowl as a cultural institution.

Most Appearances Without a Win

The Minnesota Vikings hold the record for most Super Bowl appearances without a championship at four. They lost Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX, and XI, spanning 1970 to 1977. The Buffalo Bills are the only team to appear in four consecutive Super Bowls, doing so from 1991 to 1994, losing all four.

Among individual players, John Elway made five Super Bowl appearances before finally winning in back-to-back games with the Denver Broncos in Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII. He finished 2-3. Fran Tarkenton appeared in three Super Bowls with the Vikings and lost all three.
