Are There Any Active Dynasties?
The Kansas City Chiefs are the closest thing to a modern dynasty. With four Super Bowl victories in Super Bowls LIV, LVII, LVIII, and their 2020 championship, and with Patrick Mahomes still in his prime, the Chiefs have a realistic path to challenging or matching the Patriots and Steelers records. They have reached at least the AFC Championship game in six of the last seven seasons.
The New England Patriots dynasty under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady produced six championships from 2002 to 2019, the most dominant two-decade run by a single franchise. The Pittsburgh Steelers dynasty of the 1970s under Chuck Noll remains the gold standard for sustained excellence: four titles in six years.
Future Title Contenders
Several franchises with strong young rosters are positioned to add to their championship totals. The Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills have all built competitive rosters around franchise quarterbacks who could lead them to multiple championships. The San Francisco 49ers, already with five titles, have reached two Super Bowls in recent years and remain a perennial contender.
Teams that have never won a Super Bowl continue to pursue their first title. The Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns are among the franchises that have been close but have yet to claim a Lombardi Trophy.
