Most Dominant Super Bowl Wins
The San Francisco 49ers hold the record for the largest margin of victory in Super Bowl history. In Super Bowl XXIV (January 1990), Joe Montana's 49ers dismantled the Denver Broncos 55-10 — a 45-point margin that still stands as the most dominant performance in game history. Montana threw five touchdown passes and was named MVP. The 49ers also set the record for most points scored in a single Super Bowl with 55.
Other dominant victories include the Chicago Bears' 46-10 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX (1986), the Dallas Cowboys' 52-17 demolition of the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII (1993), and the Seattle Seahawks' 43-8 rout of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII (2014).
Closest Super Bowls Ever
Super Bowl LI (2017) is widely considered the most dramatic game ever played. The New England Patriots trailed 28-3 in the third quarter before mounting the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, ultimately defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime. Tom Brady threw for 466 yards in the win.
Super Bowl LVIII (2024) was the only other Super Bowl decided in overtime. Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to a 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers after the teams ended regulation tied at 22. Super Bowl XLIX (2015) was decided on the final play when Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson at the goal line to preserve a 28-24 Patriots win over Seattle.
